Ashtanga Ayurveda: 8 branches of Ayurveda

Since the study of Ayurveda is so vast, it was divided into eight brances

  1. Kaya Chikitsa - general medicine: deals with diseases of the whole body like fever, tuberculosis, convulsions, epilepsy, diabetes, diarrhea, etc and their treatment

  2. Bala Chikitsa - pediatrics: it deals with all the diseases of children including malnutrition

  3. Graha Chikitsa - psychiatric treatment: it deals with mental factors like imbalances doshas, microorganisms, influence of stars and moons, etc

  4. Shalakya Chikitsa - ENT and Ophthalmology: it deals with teh diseases of head and neck, face, eyes, mouth, teeth, gums, hair, etc and their treatments

  5. Salya Chikitsa - Surgery: it deals with the diseases caused by the penetration of glass, stone, wood, metal, etc and their removal from the body

  6. Agata Chikitsa - Toxicology: it deals with the diseases caused by the bites of different types of poisonous snakes and insects.

  7. Rasayana Chikitsa - rejuvenation treatment: it deals with the measures of acquiring good health and maintaining and increasing one’s health and life span, increasing memory and intelligence and decreases the aging process.

  8. Vajeekarana Chikitsa - Aphrodisiacs or Sexology: It deals with the diseases of reproductive system including low sperm count, absence of sperm, and their treatment and stimulation of sex organs

Please note, in my coaching and lifestyle, I focus primarily on Rasayana Chikitsa. As we grow older, we age, but we can prevent this aging process by certain lifestyle, diet and herbal choices.
